Know Your Orbs

When orbs appear in digital photos, it is always thrilling! But then we have to look at the reason they are there.

When we bought this house and were cleaning and fixing it up, I was taking pictures of the rooms while Scott was tearing out some drywall.

This what I got!

Orbs caused by dust particles. These are not spirits.

When we were in Penn Castle ...which was museum slick while I was there, where no dust or disturbance existed since I was in the next room and had not entered the room in the picture..  I took this photo of the dining room, which was once a Reverend William Penn's original little parlor (before the house was added onto in 1888 and made into a "castle"). I  feel pretty positive that this one is a genuine spirit orb, and I can tell you his wife Marilla may also be seen there up in the left corner.

Probably the manifestation of William E. Penn and Marilla Penn.

Anyway, the best way to be sure about your orb shots is to analyze the surroundings to determine how dusty it really is. Like when the air in the room looks clear and then the sun's rays shine through the window and you see sparkling crap that makes you not want to breathe. The camera picks up things our eyes don't see.

  1. I notice that my Penn Castle orb is a hexagon whereas the dust ones are round.

  2. great blog! I had a friend who taught kindergarten and was a paranormal investigator in her spare time. She and I had a discussion about orbs one time and she said her group had different names for orbs that were not really orbs but caused by different elements.
    Dust orb = dorb
    Bugs orb = borb
    light orb= lorb etc.

I have always been fascinated by orbs in photos but I do not know enough about them to tell if they are real or not. Like you said, I need to consider all aspects of the photo as a whole, and think about what may or may not be causing them.
